It's Christmas Time!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I realize that it doesn't really look like Christmas out there, what with this storm of the centruy that has been upon us for the past three days. I almost feel like we should be having water balloon fights instead of snowball fights... and possibly building mermaids instead of snowmen. However, it IS Christmas Eve and that means we all get to be at home, snuggled up to loved ones (yes that includes pets!), drink warm and delicious drinks and well... just RELAX and take a deep sigh of relief after all that pre-Christmas stuff.

Now I hope you have all been good boys and girls because Santa has already left the North Pole I hear, so finish up what you need to get done and get in that bed and SLEEP! Don't pretend you are sleeping because he KNOWS when you are awake!

I'm off to finish with work and get home so that I can go to bed! I WANT SANTA CLAUSE!!!!!!!!

MERRRRYYYY HO HO!!

Thank you for calling,
♥Sadie

WOAH CRAZY CHRISTMAS TIME!

Holllllyyyyy cows and horses it's been busy in here today! That, by the way, equals AWESOME. After talking with a few of the clients these past few days, I feel super ok with being SO late at this whole Christmas thing. It seems like everyone is feeling like this year, Christmas totally snuck up on us, and I am certainly not alone in the 'I just put up my tree yesterday' club. In fact, this club is almost full!

Some people were asking me how my 'eye ball twitch' is going, and well, first off, thank you for asking! Secondly, it's almost gone... I think. I've been resting it as much as possible, which is the most frustrating thing ever! These days it's all about things you do with your eyes... internet, television, reading... what is entertaining about 'eye ball rest' I ask you? But, it's going away so I'll be able to be entertained again soon enough!

I do hope you all have sent Santa your wish lists because Christmas is right around the corner! It will be fun to come to work after the Holidays and see what he brought for all of my lovely co-workers :) Actually... I want my co-workers for Christmas, in my stocking... think they would all fit?!

Dear Santa... I want Anthony, Staysea, James, Andrew, Bexie, Megs, Mel, Annierose... *insert the rest of my co-worker's names here* in a large box or crammed in my stocking. Thank you, have a cookie! Love, me

If you are looking for some good Christmas stocking stuffers, sorry the staff are MINE, you can watch our Roots Facebook daily for our 12 Days of Christmas deals. If you spot one you like, you just have to mention it, and that you saw it on facebook, to one of the receptionists and boom! You get the deal! It's pretty awesome, so do check it out.

Alright folks, it's getting quiet in here all of a sudden so I'm going to start cleaning up like a good girl (take notice Santa Clause!)

Blog ya later,

Thank you for calling!

Hello Strangers!

Just wanted to pop by and let you all know that I have not died, been abducted by aliens, been stranded on a deserted island (although a very sunny one with lots of fruit would be LOVELY for a few weeks!) or any other such dramatic thing.

I have been told to stay away from the computer as much as possible for eye strain... this, this does not sit well with me. Plus, I happen to have a job that requires lots of computer time! So, I've been behaving at home as much as possible and not doing too much reading on the internetz, playing games *cry* or dabbling with anything that involves my eyes on the screen for too long.

I shall be back to regular updates as soon as this irritating problem ceases and my eyes are back to full strength. Is this a symptom of aging? If so, have any of you found the fountain of youth yet?! If you have, do send me some to put under my tree for Christmas ;)

PS: 12 days of Christmas have started over at the Roots Facebook fan page, so be sure to keep your eyes on that daily for some amazing deals. Remember, you have to mention that you read it on the facebook page when you come visit one of our receptionists at either salon in order to get the deal. It's a secret, almost, or more accurately, a prize for all of you that give us online love ;)

I'll talk to ya soon! Pray for the speedy recovery of my eyes! I know I am!

Thank you for calling,
♥Sadie

Roots Personalities: Megan Griffiths

And as promised, a second Roots Personalities this week! The secret girl I was talking about is Megan Griffiths! I'm sure a lot of you see her as your stylist, and those that don't at least know of her. She's been with Roots a looonnnng time and she's a very very talented young lady.

I love working with Megan, and absolutely LOVE her energy!
She is a very positive and inspirational lady and so it is my pleasure to feature her here!

Megan? I MEGA HEART YOUR DAMN FACE!! ♥♥♥♥♥ x 10000

Q. What is your favorite thing about working at Roots?

I LOVE the positive vibrant energy of the salon. We are a little (always growing) dysfunctional family... have been very fortunate to work with such creative and beautiful people for the past six years!

Q. When did you decide you wanted to become a hair stylist and what made you decide to become one?

My VERY first experience with styling came when I was about 5 years old. I had a yellow plastic breifcase that I filled with various tools (kitchen sheers, nail scissors, hairbrush etc...) and went by the name "Shirley the hairdresser"!!! My dad paid me 25 cents to trim his eyebrows!!! Hahahaha.
Down the road a while when I was in middle school I met Mike & Ida at the salon on Church Street in Comox and was recruited as a hair model!!! I fell in LOVE with the "cool" factor!!! The industry was calling my name... everything just seemed to fit. Mike & Ida have served as amazing mentors sharing their skills an knowledge over the years... shaping me into the stylist I am today ;)

Q. Do you want to specialize in one particular area of hair design in the future? Example: Platform artist, working on movie sets, owning your own salon etc? Or are you content with having your own clients and working for Roots?

I am NEVER satisfied to live within preset perameters. I love to learn and will always strive to grow from new experiences along the way. Adventure runs in my blood...I would take a spin at any or ALL the above! A few things on my career list; work backstage at NY Fashion Week, compete and win a major national/ international stylist competition, have my work published, climb Mt. Everest! HA... I could go on and ON! Who knows what tomorrow will bring...

Q. Now on the the more personal and random stuff... What do you consider to be your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

I think my ability to interact with people is one of my greatest strengths. I also have a TONNE of energy which can be both a great strength AND weakness depending on the situation. My endless perfectionism in most everything that I do has been a struggle throughout my life to date. Fortunately...my clients don't seem to mind that about me ;)

Q. What do you think the world needs to learn?

Love. Acceptance. Humility. Things we can all work on.

Q. What is your dream concert lineup starting from opening band to headliner?

I love music... however, I wouldn't say I have ever really dreamt about concerts. I like live music in small intimate venues. The last concert I really wanted to see was in Australia, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. My friend Cian introduced me to the band when I first arrived in Sydney and we tried (and failed miserably) to scrape up cash to go when they were touring Oz last March. I would still
LOVE to see that show!!

Q. If you could have anything delivered to your doorstep each morning, what would it be and why?

Wheatgrass shot. To keep me strong and healthy.

Q. If you could write one message on a ten dollar bill that people would see as the money circulated, what would it be and why?

What do you call two turtles mating...??? SLOW POKE!!! Hahahaha.

Q. If someone were looking for you in a bookstore, which section would they be most likely to find you?

Travel section....dreaming about my next adventure! It's very possible I might also be in the food isle drooling over colourful pictures of beautiful fresh cooking! I LOVE FOOD!

Q. What is something you used to love, but have outgrown?

Doubled diagonal forward slices....translation: zebra stipe highlights.

Q. What is something you used to love and refuse to outgrow?

Candy. CANDY. CANDY!!!

Q. Is there anything that you enjoy that would probably surprise most of the people that know you?

No? Well....I'm sure theres LOTS. Just cant think of anything this second.

Q. What is your biggest fear, and how did you come to fear it?

Incompetence. I HATE not being able to do things...

Q. What are the five things that make you happiest in life?

All PEOPLE....Too many to LIST!!!

Q. Other than being a hair stylist, what is another career you would pursue if we had not have kidnapped you to our dark side?

Biologist, lawyer, environmental engeneer, cabinet maker...

Q. What type of hair styling excites you the most? For example, crazy rockstar hair styles, conservative hair styles, trendy styles?

I'm loving softness and harmonious "pretty" with hair colour...even in terms of fashion shades, bright and bold doesnt have to look tacky! I love EVERYTHING with texture, movement, bounce...never TOO polished. I like combining a bit of "old school" flavor into my special occasion styling with glamorous s-waves, pincurls and soft curling iron sets.

Q. What are your biggest pet peeves?

I really don't like spitting... EWWWW!

There ya have it folks, the lovely Megs has spoken!

And now I'm off to eat some MUNCHIES! No, not the actual brand munchies, but probably something junkish like that ;)

Thank you for calliing,
♥Sadie

Black Hole Weekend of Crazy

What day is it? What is my name? Where am I?! WHO ARE YOU!?

That weekend flew by, and half of it was wrapped in a haze called 'Christmas Party'. We had a great time at Joe's Garage, and pretty much everyone showed up which is always awesome. There was so much food, and all of it was finger food, so that was perfect for mingling and grabbing the odd snack throughout the night. My eyes were bigger than my stomach at first and after the first plate of food was consumed, I was STUFFED. So much better than being hungry, but oh wow was I full!

I got some pictures, but I am waiting to see the pictures Andrea got. Her camera was working a bit better in the low light conditions inside the venue, and she got some 'gooduns'! I got some good ones from the after party of the party part of the evening. Andrea said she will let me gank the photos from her camera on Wednesday, but I'll throw up some of my Gullivers footage when I get home for you guys :)

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, but you must understand that my head was feeling a bit like a pound of bricks just fell on it, and my body felt as if I threw it in front of a train, and the train sped up just before impact.... maybe that's a bit over the top, but maybe not. I barely got out of bed to be honest!

Oh and the stylist that still has to give me her answers STILL hasn't given them to me, so we will all blame her for procrastinating! I will harass her some more, and prod her with a big stick, and possible dangle delicious treats that she can't have until she submits and gives me her answers!

So yeah, just wanted to update you on the weekend and let you know what's up. It's a REALLY quiet day here today, so if you want to come visit with us and keep us from shedding tears of woe that would be awesome. If not, we still love you and totally understand!

I'm going to finish devouring this delicious scone that the lovely April got for me, and I will blog you later with pics and more updates from the bestest salon ever!

Happy Monday beautifuls!

Thank you for calling,
♥Sadie

Roots Personalities: Jason Kirsch

WOO FRICKEN HOOOO we have another Roots Personality to show off! This time I had the absolute pleasure of featuring Jason, AND getting to read his answers first! Mwahaha, suckas! But I'll share them with you since they are quite uplifting and a joy to read.

Jason is one of the most pleasant, kind and positive people I know. He is always fun to work with, and when it's really slow in the salon he busts out his fancy yoyos and shows off his mad skills. Seriously fun to watch! I have some video of him doing it, and once I solve this computer issue I would love to share it with you.

Enjoy reading his answers and leave him some love in the comments! He deserves it!

(on a side note, the second Roots Personality will be posted Sunday night rather than tomorrow night as planned... staff party is tomorrow night and you don't want my, um, shall I say 'after party personality' and typing skills posting something as important as that. So Sunday it is folks!)

Q. What is your favorite thing about working at Roots?

I love working with the clients and seeing them leave stoked and excited for their new hair style! YAY!

Q. When did you decide you wanted to become a hair stylist and what made you decide to become one?

I decided to get in to this job the very second I was offered an apprenticeship from Mike and Ida. I said to myself, 'I am going to do this, and do it RIGHT!' From that moment on, look out hair because here I come!

Q. Do you want to specialize in one particular area of hair design in the future? Example: Platform artist, working on movie sets, owning your own salon etc? Or are you content with having your own clients and working for Roots?

I will never specialize in one specific area of hair design. I definitely have goals to be even better and keep progressing and educating my clients. I love my clients to be knowledgeable in their own hair type and confident with the style they are rocking. However, runway hair might be an option for a future goal. Who doesn't like chilling out with models all day!?

Q. Now on the the more personal and random stuff... What do you consider to be your greatest strengths and
weaknesses?

My strength: Ability to listen and tend to my clients needs.
My weakness: Standing still and doing perms for the oldies.

Q. What's your number one goal in life?

My number one goal in life is to raise my baby to be love in absolutely every sense of the word.

Q. What do you think the world needs to learn?

The world needs to learn to love and appreciate each other and our planet to the fullest. No starvation. No homelessness. We all live here together.

Q. What is your dream concert lineup starting from opening band to headliner?

Oh man... so many possibilities! I would put my favorites all together on one stage! Frank Sinatra, Jay Z and Pantera

Q. If you could have anything delivered to your doorstep each morning, what would it be and why?

One delivery every day, and that would be a new yoyo because I'd never have to change strings again, and the color would always be FRESH!

Q. If you could write one message on a ten dollar bill that people would see as the money circulated, what would it be and why?

'SPEND IT NOW!' because that's what you do with it. Make it to spend it. I dislike misers. Save for the future? What if you died tonight?!

Q. If someone were looking for you in a bookstore, which section would they be most likely to find you?

Psychology. I love reading about how smart we think we are.

Q. What is something you used to love, but have outgrown?

I used to love aggressive inline xtreme roller blading, but now it hurts for a long long time after I fall.

Q. What is something you used to love and refuse to outgrow?

I have always loved video games, still do and always will!

Q. Is there anything that you enjoy that would probably surprise most of the people that know you?
I like being alone for hours at a time.

Q. What is your biggest fear, and how did you come to fear it?

Crashing in a car because people are often stupid when they are driving.

Q. If you could only keep one of your five senses, which would you decide to keep and why?

Vision. I love watching life.

Q. What are the five things that make you happiest in life?

Top 5:
My family (Mother, Brother and Girlfriend)
Dancing and music (hand in hand)
Friends
Yoyo's
Laughter

Q. Other than being a hair stylist, what is another career you would pursue if we had not have kidnapped you to our dark side?

I have been instructing ballroom dancing for 11 years. No hair, no dancing? Then I would love to fly aircrafts of all kinds.

Q. What type of hair styling excites you the most? For example, crazy rockstar hair styles, conservative hair styles, trendy styles?

I love putting the entire package together. Awesome color, awesome cut. Beyond that I would say updos for parties.

Q. What are your biggest pet peeves?
My pet peeves are:
-Cellphones
-Rude people on cell phones
-People driving with cell phones
-Cell phone providers
-Kids with cellphones
-Brain tumors caused by cell phones

Q. And finally, what would you like to say to the readers? What would you like them to know about you?

Embrace the decisions you make about your hair style and ROCK IT like a Rockstar!

'Do what you do and stay true'

I make mistakes every day making opportunity for improvement with each mistake. I always stay positive and avoid drama, and so should you! I also LOVE yoyos!!!
